The Rev. Joan Hopton

Rev. Joan Hopton, answered the called to the ministry in 1986, and today is an ordained Itinerate Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She served as an Associate Minister for 19 years and was blessed to serve with 5 pastors, who trained and allowed her ministry to grow. She has preached at revivals in Buffalo N.Y., Brooklyn, Bronx, Long Island, New York and Raleigh N.C. 

She served as the Caucus Leader for Women in Ministry in the 1stEpiscopal District- Jamaica/Long Island Conference, and in the 2ndEpiscopal District-Western and Northern Conferences.  

She has also served as a Missionary and Sunday school teacher. Other ministries include, Team Leader for Women's Home Bible Study Group, President of the Scholarship Committee, P/T Church Administrator, New Members Ministry, Women of Destiny, Intercessory Prayer 

Ministry, CLI Ministry (Prison Ministry), Marriages for Christ Ministry & Convoy of Hope (International Outreach Ministry). The past 5 years studied the bible with an International Bible Study Group, known as BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).  

Past employments: Educator, Medical Underwriter, Sales Administrator and Office Law Clerk. 

Currently, a Substitute Teacher, for the Wake County Public Schools, serving for the past 12 plus years.  

Rev. Hopton holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree with a minor in Education from 

Empire State College/SUNY. She attended New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Jersey. Graduated from Meredith College, Raleigh N.C., Paralegal Program, ABA approved, completing paralegal studies in Family Law. 

She was the co-founder and pastor of New Bethel Community A.M.E. Church, which was located in Raleigh, N.C., and, for 5 years, she pastored one of the oldest Black churches in North Carolina, Rue Chapel A.M.E. Church, located in New Bern N.C, founded in 1865. 

Rev. Hopton believes when you have the spirit to serve, God will use you according to your faith and strengths.
