The Lincolnville AME Church congregation was organized in 1874. The first church building was located on or near Trinity Road, near the location of Carter-Finley Stadium. The old cemetery is still located just behind the stadium. Expansion by the State of North Carolina forced us to seek another location.
Under the leadership of the Rev. I. J. Irving, the land was purchased at 6400 Chapel Hill Road, and the present edifice was erected to the Glory of Almighty God.
In November 1982, the first services were lifted up to God, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. Then, on May 15, 1983, the Dedicatory Services were conducted by the Right Reverend John Hurst Adams, Presiding Prelate of the 2nd Episcopal District. It is in grateful remembrance "wherefore, seeing we are encompassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, we have laid aside every weight, to run with patience, the race that is yet set before us." (Hebrews 12:1)
